WVDHSEM and the WV SARCO will be conducting the annual search and rescue exercise “Operation Apocalypse 2012” at the Boy Scout Buckskin Reservation at Dilley’s Mill, WV on May 11-13, 2012. This years’ event will include three training tracks on Friday evening to accommodate all land, K-9, and communication personnel with training opportunities. The Civil Air Patrol will be participating with ground crews and flight operations to support the exercise. HAM radio groups will be part of the exercise group also. The National Guard will be providing a medical evacuation Blackhawk helicopter with an extraction demonstration as well as NG special forces Pathfinder units instructing a landing zone preparation class and demonstration. We will be including several volunteer agencies in the exercise this year in order to “train like we fight”. All teams and local emergency responders are invited to participate. Please forward this to all team members and other emergency responders. Feeding will be provided for Saturday and Sunday of the event. Meals for Friday are on your own. The event will start at 1700 hrs on May 11 with the planning and training sessions. Dave Canterbury and his crew will be attending the event and filming some of the action. He and his wife will be the “rabbits” for the Saturday search exercise. Meet and greet opportunities with Dave will be available. Surrounding state teams are welcome as always.
The event falls within the quiet zone of the Astronomy Center…so your cell phone….WILL NOT WORK. That is one reason we exercise there…if you don’t bring your own commo …you don’t have any. We will provide the “command net” radios for IC and team leaders…if you have team radios please make sure you bring them or inter-team commo.
Please let me know …BY GROUP…how many folks will be attending so I can get a handle on how many people I have to take care of….no need to register individually at this time.
Camping space will be available. Showers and water will be available on site.
