“THINK INSIDE THE BOX”
June 30, 2011July OEM, CERT, SAR Meeting
July 5, 2011Tyler OEM and WV NCC will hold a Ham Radio class Wed. July 13 at the New Martinsville campus of WV Northern Community College. The class will start at 6pm and end at 9pm. This will be the first of a two part tasked based training on getting an FCC Technician Class amateur radio license.
Bill Sams, KE8KR, will teach this first session of the class. Mr. Sams is a retired local teacher who has enjoyed many years of amateur radio as hobbiest and as an Emergency Manager. Several years ago he developed an interesting agenda that starts the students out by simply teaching them some tricks about taking the test. After this he will review different segments of the test. Students will receive a detailed study guide that covers every question and answer that will be on the test.
Don Williams, N8NUS, will teach the second part of the class a few weeks later. Two weeks after the second part of the training, Wood County Emergency Communications will come in and administer the FCC test. The only cost to the student is the $15 FCC fee to take the test at the end.
